Kamloops knitters make prayer shawls for residential school survivors

The Presbyterian Church of Canada has acknowledged their role in the tragic legacy of the residential schools in Canada and have been involved since 1994 in the truth and resolution movement.  Knitters from St. Andrews Church in Kamloops, B.C., have knit prayer shawls which will be delivered to the commission hearings being held in Vancouver.  Click here to read more about their “give a hug” shawls.

Knitted miniature village deemed “health hazard” by local children’s hospital

The local Women’s Institute in Devon, England spent a year knitting an entire miniature village, which they intended to donate to the local children’s hospital.  When it was rejected by the hospital as a “health hazard”, they tried to donate it to other organizations, but without success.  Undaunted, they are now going to send it to an orphanage in South Africa, where it will find a welcome home.  To read more about it, click here.

Scottish knitters prepare to break the Guinness world record

 

On September 8, 2013, knitters from Dundee, Scotland hope to gather more than 3500 people together in an to attempt to break the world’s record for the most people knitting simultaneously.  Read more about it here.

Post script…Unfortunately the knitters were not successful in their attempt to break the record for the most number of people knitting simultaneously.  See the video of their efforts which included also raising awareness for Alzheimer’s Disease.
