Learn to Knit Toe-Up Socks with Holli Yeoh
October 14, 2015 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm
An event every 14 days that begins at 6:30pm, repeating until October 28, 2015
During this two-evening workshop with knitting expert Holli Yeoh, you will learn to knit toe-up style socks. Light refreshments are included, and you have the choice of bringing your own materials or purchasing materials ahead of time.
This toe-up sock class with Holli Yeoh is a skill building opportunity to knit socks with completely replaceable heels and toes. In the first week we’ll tackle the beautifully invisible Turkish cast-on and learn about knitting placeholder stitches so the heel can be worked at the end of the project. Take this opportunity to learn how to work in the round using the Magic Loop technique.
Your assignment between classes is to knit like the wind so you’re ready for the second class (two weeks later) where you’ll learn a stretchy, sewn bind off with no sewing. Then we’ll remove the placeholder stitches and knit the heel. We’ll complete the sock by learning to graft on the needles.
You may knit a sock of any size, but plan to have the foot and leg completed before the second class. If you’re knitting a sock for someone else, come to class with the foot circumference (measured around the ball of the foot) and foot length (not shoe size).
Skill level: This class is suitable for all sorts of knitters including adventurous beginners who are ready to knit in the round. It’s also suitable for veteran sock knitters who want to learn a toe-up method. It will appeal to knitters who want to learn the Magic Loop method of knitting in the round. You’ll take away some great techniques that you can apply to your other knitting projects.
What to bring: Your basic knitters’ toolkit including measuring tape and scissors.
