Sassy Selbuvotter by Mary Scott Huff
November 3 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm$45
Intermediate | Advanced 3 Hour Class
This class will cover an exploration of traditional Selbuvotter techniques and history. Includes a free class pattern for Selbuvotter style mittens.
Students should be familiar with stranded colorwork, knitting in the round on double point needles, 2 circular’s or the magic loop method.
Materials required for class:
Sport or DK yarn in two highly-contrasting colors, approx. 200 yds each, plus 100 yds each of 2 other colors.
DPN’s – one set of 2.75mm, one set of 3.25mm. Adjust needle sizes if necessary to obtain correct gauge.
Note taking supplies, tapestry needle, and waste yarn.
Homework for class:
Please come to class with a swatch knit in the round. The gauge required is 7 sts per inch in two-colored stranded colorwork. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notes on Yarn Choices:
The gauge to achieve is 7 sts per inch. You can choose lightweight yarn, such as sock/baby/ fingering weight for lightweight, modern mittens. Or you can select heavier weight yarn, such as DK/Sport, worked at the same 7 sts per inch, which will create a firmer, more traditional fabric.
Any needle configuration you prefer is fine (DPN, Magic Loop, etc.) Plan to work the lowest band of your mittens in a medium or light shade, since you will be knitting in the hem in that area. It can be difficult to hem with a dark color.
