Sarah's Wedding Shawl

  • Melanie B. brought a shawl she called Suri Elegance that she made for her future daughter-in-law. She used Alpaca yarn in an ivory color. The pattern in the centre panel was called day flower from Barbara Wallers stitch dictionary. The border was called print of the wave.
  • Judy D. showed her side to side scarf in Lamb’s Pride heritage jazz from Wool Station in Bellingham. The base color was electric blue with touches of mauve & turquoise through out the yarn. She also showed socks in which she knitted rows of garter stitch over the top of the socks.
  • Maureen P. knitted a pair of kids high top runners in white & red that would fit a 5 year old (Unisex.)She was also in the process of knitting a shell from Matrix yarns in a free form pattern. She knitted a childs sweater with yarn bought from Dress Sew & using one of Holli Yeoh’s patterns. She was also crocheting a six petal flower motif using Lion’s Brand Suede . She will be making from 35 to 40 of these to make a scarf.
  • Syvia P., Maureen P.’s guest, was knitting a swing jacket out of heavy varigated yarn called Acrylic slub. She was using 2 strands of yarn the second strand is called Chamonix Tweed.
  • Maureen C. showed a news letter from the Surrey Wineberry Fabrics at 64th & 52nd Aves. Talked about class schedules for Knitting & Quilting.
  • Pat D. brought her burgundy baby hoodie from Designer Cottage Creations Babies of Bears. The yarn used was Bernat Super Wash Wool.
  • Nigel P. finished a sweater for his partner after 6 years. This project was only worked on when he wasn’t travelling. Yarn he used was cotton wool brown sheep yarn . The bottom half of the sweater was knitted in cables in a burgunday color. The top half of the sweater was done in Fair Isle colors. He knit the sweater in a Scandanavian method as a tube. He also talked about the first sock he knitted that was too big now he is working on his second pair.
  • Joan T. purchased a skein of Euroflax from the new yarn shop on Main and 29th Ave. It is 100% linen & was recommended by Paulette. It is suppose to last forever & it should give her two dish cloths.
  • Joan & Yvonne shopped at a wonderful yarn shop called Marilyn’s in Bellingham on the Labour Day weekend. Marilyn’s is on North West Ave. across the street from Yaegers. We both decided we needed to learn how to knit socks. We bought yarn called Socks that Rock 100% Super Wash Merino We were told Canadians were flocking down there to buy this yarn. We also went to Hank & Bolt which had a different concept more crafts & sewing merchandise but also plenty of yarns. This shop was in a mall just up the street from Marilyn’s near Albertson’s.
  • Eleanor M. brought in her sweater done in her own design which was supposed to be for the Rectangle Challenge. She used left over yarns using two strands one strand of Rowen & one strand of Alpaca. She used eleven different Rowan colors & two shades in Alpaca in Fair Isle Designs. The front & back were made of 3 1/2 ” by 4″ rectangles. The sleeves were large bands of color. The borders were stripes.
