About the event
We are thrilled to welcome Anna Hunter of Long Way Homestead for this special extended workshop, combining two of her most popular classes into one deep, hands-on learning experience!
Discover the diverse wool of over a dozen Canadian sheep breeds in this tactile and inspiring workshop. You’ll explore fleece characteristics and how they impact your craft—whether you knit, crochet, spin, or weave. Get up close with raw fleece and finished yarn as Anna guides you through what makes quality wool and how to find it locally.
But this class is more than just wool in your hands—it's also about the bigger picture. We’ll dive into the history and current landscape of wool in Canada, where 90% of our homegrown wool is shipped offshore, even as 95% of the yarn and fibre on shop shelves is imported. Why does this matter? Because understanding where your fibre comes from is the first step to changing the system.
Join us for a powerful discussion on revitalizing our local fibre economy, supporting Canadian farmers, and building a more sustainable, resilient future for fibre arts in this country. Whether you’re a passionate maker or simply curious about Canadian wool, this class will leave you inspired, informed, and empowered.
This is a 3 hour class.
